Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving day started out with Steve playing basketball bright and early, me waking up mad becuase I couldn't go for a run, and then Steve playing football in the snow and messing up his shoulder really bad by falling onto a big ball of ice. Once we got that overwith, it was time to make a monster meal for about thirty people.

We had lots of family come and it was a really great time. It is amazing how long it takes to prepare for a meal like that. But, it was lots of fun and I am glad that we did it and that we had such a great turnout.

Corens Thanksgiving Feast

I was lucky enough to go to Corens kindergarten thanksgiving feast this year. Each of the kids brought food to share. It was an interesting variety to say the least. Coren brought turkey. He had so much fun and was so proud of the place mat he made. What a fun group of kids.

School Projects

It seems like lately we have had lots of school projects due. The kids LOVE doing them, and sadly I get a little too into them as well. Carson had to make a corn husk doll of one of his ancestors. We chose Jacob Johns who came from England and was a solider in the revolutionary war.

He also had to take a turkey and discuise it. We turned ours into a Utah football player. I turned out so dang cute.

Makenna has been learing all kinds of cool stuff in Science and had to make a Protazoa. She made hers out of m&m's and it looked really cool!

Honk Honk!

I did the dumbest most embarrassing thing last week and I think I am ready to come clean about it. This is one of those moments that you just have to laugh, or look back and laugh, because it was pretty bad. Don't judge... here goes.

It happened last Friday. Friday morning I got a phone call from from my really upset sister. She told me about how the doctor had broken the news about my Mom and the spots on her brain. I was in shock. I held it together for a minute but then when I called Steve to come home I just started crying. My eyes got pretty blurry, but I grabbed my stuff and ran out the door.

So off I go in my car. This stupid boot on my foot that makes driving SO hard and vision that was questionable. Don't worry I wore my seatbelt.

As I am driving down 12600 South, all of the sudden I hear someone honking. It was obvious that they were honking at me because it was so loud. I was already really tense but I tried to calm down so that I could figure out what I had done to make someone so mad. I couldn't think of anything. The honking continued. I was getting a little bugged; I totally understand giving a little honk when you are irritated but to just lay on the horn?!? For so long?!? At this point they had been honking for about 30 seconds. Yes, thirty seconds!

A light turned red and I stopped. I started to look at the people around me so that I could figure out who was honking. I would look at people and shake my head and give them my "what the hell?" look. They would give a similar look back to me.

The honking went on. SO LOUD, and just constant.

Finally the light turned green. As I went to drive I moved my hand a little bit and it stopped. The honking was gone!! Things went quiet in my head. My little wheels that had apparently stopped for a while started spinning again. It was then that I realized I was the honker.

If I had to give you an estimate, I would say that realistically I was honking for well over a minute.

Did I look around, NO! Did I laugh, NO! Did I feel like the dumbest blond in the entire world, NO... but I do now!

Happy Birthday Steve

We had a fun time celebrating Steves thirty first birthday this year. He has been wanting to try out frisbee golf, so we got him so frisbees to get him going along with some other fun gifts. Later that night we went out to Leatherbys for ice-cream which I have to say it THE BEST! Happy Birthday babe, we love you!

I think the new name for cancer should be... rollercoaster... honestyly that is what cancer is to the family and the patient, a rollercoaster of emotions, information, and day to day battles. It is so amazing how from one day to the next things can change so drastically!

I never updated the blog yesterday, I think because my brain was fried. Honestly by the time I got home I didn't even know what day it was. Our morning started off with some very bad news that her liver function was worsening, and the news was not well received by anyone, especially my Mom. Well, okay not by anyone. I have to say that our morning was hard.

She was so excited to have some fun visitors, especially our sister Jenny and our GIANT nephews Brock and Jon. It was so amazing to see them and it really lifted her spirits.

Amy came to visit from Arizona, and it was a good thing. My Mom had an adverse reaction from her sleeping pill the night before and was up all night going crazy. She was arguing with the nurses saying that she was at a credit union seeing Amy and they needed to let her leave. She also said they trapped her in a hotel and wouldn't let her out. She called Brooke at one in the morning ("HI! What ya doing?") and the nurse called my Dad at 4:30. They said she would get really mad at them saying that they had to let her out and then she would just smile. She didn't want to be rude. So funny. Well not, but we are laughing about it now.

We got her to go on a little walk down that hall which was huge (okay I made her and she was angry but she liked it) and she eats and loves her food. She has gained over 20 pounds since Wednesday (which is possibly fluid retention which is not good, but hopefully that will fix itself) and she is loving telling us stories, which we like hearing since they are so imaginative!

She wanted to have a sleepover last night so Brooke was the lucky one. In the middle of the night the nurse came in to check her vitals and she told them to hold on. She then reaches over to Brookes foot and tickles it and says "tickle tickle" and then turns back to the nurse and gives her the okay to talke vitals. First things first she says! Brooke needs a nap today!

This morning the doctor came in and said that he liver funtion is IMPROVING and that she looks SO much better today. She is going home right after her radiation.

The Boot!

From *

I am not a happy person! Not only have I been in pain for the last few months, but now that I have figured out the problem I am in this stupid boot thing and I can't run for about 6 weeks.

About 3 months ago my leg started KILLING me. I figured it was just a strained muscle and went about life. Every so often it would get so bad that I would have to rest the leg for a few days, but then I would start to run again and it was do-able. It hurt, but I have had so many running injuries that I could just run through and eventually they would just go away. Sometimes I would think it was a bone problem because the bone would throb in pain, but I was in tons of denial because I didn't want it to be a bone issue.

One night last week I was laying in bed and I was in SO much pain I couldn't even hold still. I was just rolling around trying not to scream. Steve woke up and was like, "what in the heck are you doing?" So he turned on the lights and started to look at it and thought it was a broken bone or something. he tried to wrap it in this stupid thing but I refused and promised to go to the doctor the next day.

The doctor was amazing. Except when he started pushing on the leg where it hurt and I literally jumped almost off the table and screamed. He told me that he needed to do x-rays because he thought it was a stress fracture. he said, "If we can't see it on the x-ray we are in good shape, if we can it is going to be a long road."

I was so mad when he said, "Come and look at your x-ray... see that crack right there?" Then he said, "You choose cast or boot. I feel like I can't trust you with the boot. Can I trust you?" I knew what he meant. Even right now I am so tempted to take the boot off and run even just a mile. But I can't.

So I am out for at least 4 weeks. Most likely 6. I am supposed to do physical therapy, but I am kind of lazy with that, so we will see. In the meantime I am just pouting around and hoping that I can get this thing better. I have some huge races in the spring.

Oh and by the way, I got home with this cast and my RUDE husband (who was waiting in the garage for me with a big old smile) started to laugh uncontrollably! It was like it was the funniest thing he had ever seen in his life. He said, "it is only funny because you care so much. I would feel bad for anyone else!" Very. Very. Rude.

I hope I make it through this, it REALLY sucks!
